Algorithm Description

The basic module of Iron Quantification is extracting the high iron region from sub cortical structures, including Caudate Nucleus, globus pallidus, putman, thalamus, pulvinear thalamus, red nucleus, substantial nigra. User need to draw the structures first, a thresholding for the 7 structures will be ran, then output the result to a excel sheet. The patient's case number, age, manufacture's system type will be pulled from DICOM automatically for report generation.

SWI Quantification Input

First open an image file. In preference menu mark the SWI mode. Further draw the 7 structures on the image. Then click the process button to compute the SWI Quantification. Use "Export to Excel" button to save the result in Excel sheet. 3dmip.jpg

Case Name - Name assigned for patient
Patient Age - Age
Threshold Value - Specifies where the phase image from the phase contrast scan is located.
Resolution - Physical size of one pixel. Along X,Y and Z directions.
System Options - This is from manufacturer of MRI scanner where the image operates i.e.: GE is Right Hand System and Seimens is Left Hand System.
Threshold Type Options - Mostly we use default as lower threshold value for right hand system.
Data Range Options - Work under progress

SWI Quantification Output

Export to Excel - Exports a summary to Excel of the iron quantification. The output file contains following parameters : Filtered Object, Number, Mean, SD, Min, Max, Volume, Percentile, Threshold Value, Case Number, Patient Age, Slice Thickness and Threshold Type. Following is the description of output result.
Filtered object – The structure object.
Number – The total object and the part satisfies the threshold.
Mean – Average of intensity.
SD – Standard deviation of sum of each pixel.
Min – Minimum Intensity.
Max – Maximum Intensity.
Volume – The product of threshold number and resolution in X, Y and Z. The unit (mm3).
Percentage – It is computed using threshold Number/Total Number *100.
Slice Thickness – Same as resolution in Z direction.
